Now, who is at fault here? the couple for entering dangerous waters or the pirates for capturing the poor couple. I have thought about this many times over and I just cannot understand why someone would go near a place known for its piracy, a lot of us Somali people don’t even dare go to a lot of areas in Somalia, what were they thinking?

  1. I feel sorry for this couple. What was planned as a nice dream holiday turned into a nightmare for them. Matters were made worse when the UK government intervened. I got my doubts about their intentions behind this intervention. Paul Chandler might be a businessman but he isnt the wealthiest and £61.500 is all him and his family could cough up for their release. The pirates were happy with this sum as far as I know.

I’m just wondering if the UK government would intervene again if someone was to proxy this money somehow. Say some wealthy businessman from Somalia pays of the sum and Paul pays his debt back to him. I can imagine Paul being forever gratefull for such a favour.

  2. I’ve not read the full story, but the couple are definitely at fault for entering the zone.
