Think Again: The Film [Video]
“Think Again” is a thought-provoking film that follows a 12-year-old’s struggle between family honour and the facts about FGM. On discovering that her mom wants to take her back home to be ‘cut’ she explores the implications FGM has on her life and the misconceptions that explain why the practice persists in the 21st century.
“Think Again” depicts the cultural context in which FGM is practiced and the inter-generational conflict of holding down tradition in a new and foreign environment. The physical and psychological impact of FGM is ongoing, life-long and remains taboo to discuss even between mother and daughter. “Think Again” addresses a complex issue with sensitivity and creativity, breaking the silence and inspiring change.
The Young People Speak Out project is led by FORWARD to engage young people from FGM-practicing communities to educate and empower their peers and their community to abandon the practice of FGM. The storyline for the film is based on real-life experiences of women and young people in the UK who have undergone FGM.
FORWARD is an African diaspora-led campaign and support charity, established in 1985. FORWARD works to advance and safeguard the sexual and reproductive health and rights of African women and girls, particularly those affected by female genital mutilation (FGM).
FGM involves the partial or total removal of female genitalia for non-medical reasons (source: WHO). It is a cultural practice which, to date, has affected 140 million women and girls globally. In the UK an estimated 24,000 girls are at high risk of FGM (FORWARD prevalence study 2007) yet there still remains little awareness of the issue, particularly amongst young people.

Just one of those stupid so-called ‘traditions’ that are inserted into our culture by Shaydaan .. its called ‘Fircawni’/Pharoic .. literally meaning its a Sunnah inherited from Fircawn … how more ignorant can ppl b to claim they are on the religion of Prophet Musa (AS) and Propthet Muxammad (AS) yet follow the Sunnah of Fircawn and yet expect the God of Prophet Musa and Prophet Muxammad to be pleased with them !!! and the rest of us who are quiet about are represented by those of us acting upon it …
Well Said brother, these DUMB parents can not differentiate Fircawn’s sunnah and Prophet Muhammad’s sunnah? What is wrong with them? it can’t get any simpler.
I cant imagine that this is still going on
Course it’s still going on, back home!
It shouldn’t be so hard to imagine that it still goes on cuz violence based on none-sense still goes on. At least those ignorant ones still torturing their daughters are basing their practices on a so-called tradition, which just includes a wave of ignorance to the one already at hand.
Its a well known sunna (tradition) of ALLAH that when a people of a scripture turn their backs on what’s revealed to them from above and instead turn to other sources for guidance, Allah first shows them signs of their ignorance and if the society turns a blind eye then Allah simply does away with them.
Now, we, as a society are going astray as a whole and no matter how many good folks are among us (even those good folks among us are not doing their duty of delivering the message), this will definetly result in our destruction from the heavens. A saviour is needed and none seem to be visible on the horizons, but the hope is that the Prophet (SAW) said that Allah brings forth a person to revive his message every century. We could only wonder who this 1 person could be for this disastrous century.
