Taxi Driver

A computer expert has described his astonishment at seeing the BBC's 24-hour news channel interview a taxi driver - in the mistaken belief it was him. Guy Kewney - a white, bearded technology expert - was astonished to see himself appear on screen as a black man with an apparent French accent. He was even more shocked to see himself unable to answer basic questions about the legal battle between the Beatles' Apple Corps and Apple Computer over the use of an apple symbol. Mr Kewney, an IT journalist and founder of newswireless.net, watched as the cabbie, who has not been named, gamely attempted to answer questions fired at him by BBC consumer affairs correspondent Karen Bowerman. The man, who had been waiting for his fare in the reception of Television Centre, found himself being ushered into a studio and fitted with a microphone after raising his hand when a producer called out the name Guy Kewney. On his website, the real Mr Kewney, said that the man "seemed as baffled as I felt" when asked about the consequences of the lawsuit live on BBC News 24. It is unclear why the driver identified himself when Mr Kewney's named was called but it is thought he had been waiting to pick the computer expert up. Only when Ms Bowerman announced live on air the name and title of the man who should have been there and asked the first question did the driver realise there had been a mix-up. A BBC spokeswoman said: "Unfortunately we did make a mistake and the wrong person was interviewed briefly on air before we cut to our reporter. "We apologise to viewers for any confusion." .

Expression on the face of the taxi driver Priceless!!!!! :-D. It just goes to show how much the average man on the street actually knows. Who needs pundits when you can ask a London cabbie!

The guy was totally clueless..... Nice one madow.....everyone at my office is talking about this right this minute :-) "We declare our right on this earth . . . to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary. I would have understood if they mistakened the guy for another white bloke, but a African taxi driver? You've got to be kidding me. Now the joke is on BBC. His suprised reaction was a classic! I have to give it up for the brother, he kept his cool, drifted with the ripples, and answered her questions. DAKG imagine if the guy was Somali. How would he react?

abI am so sorry that you mentioned this person as a taxi driver wile he was an applicant for the BBC and here is prooof from another website. we AOL UK members even voted for him to be offered the jop that he was aplying for. here is the report. BBC mistakes job aplicant for interview guest LONDON (Reuters) - The BBC has revealed that a bewildered man it interviewed live on TV in the mistaken belief he was the editor of a technology website was, quite literally, “the wrong Guy.” He was Guy Goma, a graduate from central Africa, who had gone to the BBC’s News 24 studios for a job interview. Goma sat down in the BBC reception and waited to be called for the interview. A producer greeted him, led him to a studio, seated him on a stool and clipped a microphone to his lapel. A business presenter then introduced the clearly startled Goma as the editor of a technology website and asked if he was surprised by computer company Apple’s victory in a trademark dispute with The Beatles’ Apple Corp. He gamely answered, and grappled with two more questions about music downloading, before the flustered presenter thanked him and moved on. It emerged only later that he was the wrong Guy, and that the producer mistook him for Guy Kewney, the real technology website editor. Kewney, who watched the interview with astonishment at reception, said the mix-up was hard to explain because BBC staff had seen his picture in advance. Kewney is white and Goma is black. The BBC apologized to Goma and invited him back to the studio Tuesday for a follow-up interview. “(It was) very stressful,” said Goma, whose first language is not English. “When I was on set already and we started already the presentation, I couldn’t stop ... so at that time I said ‘keep going’...” The BBC has yet to say whether Goma got the job he applied for, as a data support cleanser.
